Scientists who study humankind’s longest animal companions will travel to º¬Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù for the 2022 Canine Science Conference, Oct. 7–9. 

Environmental biology major Tessa Mountain ’23, from Ambler, Pa., describes her research for the Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation.

In the fall of 2017, º¬Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù Research Associate Dennis Geist noted signs of imminent eruption at the Sierra Negra volcano in the Galápagos Islands. Little did he know at the time that his observations paired with a new volcanic forecasting program would lead to the accurate prediction of the eruption five months in advance.

Environmental geography major Thomas Butler ’24, from Chagrin Falls, Ohio, describes his historical and geographical research on how perceptions of weather in upstate New York have changed over time.

Computer Science major Shane Knopp ’23, from Palm Beach, Fla., describes his geological research on the Alaskan Subduction Zone.

In the summers of 2019 and 2020, º¬Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù professors Krista Ingram and Ahmet Ay set course for Casco Bay, Maine, with student researchers Lauren Horstmyer ’22 and Hailey Orff ’24. Together, they captured thousands of images of harbor seals for SealNet.

History major Anya Sokolowski ’25, from Bethesda, Md., describes her genealogical and historical research on survivors of the Underground Railroad.
