From a bilingual presentation to a moonlit canoe ride, here are some events to check out next week before heading out for the mid-term break.
Mirta Yáñez, a renowned writer known for her short stories, essays, and poetry will be on campus Tuesday, October 7, to read from her work in a bilingual presentation.
Yáñez has written five novels and several children’s books, in addition to
screenplays for Cuban TV and cinema. She has been awarded the Critics’ Prize in Cuba four times, amongst many other awards she has received for her literature.
The presentation will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., so make sure to come to ALANA Cultural Center for what is sure to be a great event.
If you are looking for a way to de-stress after midterms, Shaw Wellness Institute and Outdoor Education have teamed up to bring you Backyard Adventure: Moonlit Canoe. All students are invited to go canoeing on Lake Moraine from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, October 9, for a unique opportunity to experience the lake at night.
No experience is necessary, and all equipment will be provided! If you are interested, you can email rbenson@colgate.edu or call 228-7972 to secure a spot.
If you’re still on campus next weekend, go support the football team as they compete against Princeton on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Andy Kerr Stadium. Then go watch the men’s soccer team take on the Navy Midshipmen at 4 p.m. on Beyer-Small ’76 Field.
And don’t forget; tonight marks the opening night of This is Not a Play ߲о Sex.
Written by Christina Liu ’13, the play uses a variety of monologues to capture the different dynamics and feelings that stem from an individual’s sexuality, different gender identities, and forms of sexual expression.
The play is both produced and performed by students, and additions have been made to the play this year in an attempt to accurately capture the feelings and experiences of students on campus today.
The play starts at 7 p.m. at Brehmer Theater, and will show on Saturday and Sunday, as well.
