º¬Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù’s Marjorie Bradley Kellogg earns award from NYC Theatre Development Fund

, associate professor of English and scene designer at º¬Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù, was recently awarded The Robert L.B. Tobin Award for Lifetime Achievement in Theatrical Design. The prestigious award was presented by the Theatre Development Fund earlier this month at the Hudson Theater in New York City.

Kellogg was presented with the award by Kenny Leon, the director whose most recent Broadway work includes  Holler If Ya Hear Me, A Raisin in the Sun, and Fences.

Kellogg was honored for her impressive body of work, according to and magazine. Her most recent project, Passions, appeared in the 2013 Glimmerglass Festival season and this spring, involves a production of Othello at Minneapolis’ Guthrie Theater.

Her designs for the 2004 world premiere of Richard Danielpour’s opera, Margaret Garner, were exhibited at the June 2007 Prague Quadrennial, an international exposition of scenography.  Other opera work includes The Tender Land for Skylight Opera and Paul Bunyan for the Manhattan School of Music.  She was resident designer for the 1992-93 season of Tony Randall’s National Actors Theatre.  On Broadway she assisted Ming Cho Lee and Robin Wagner, and Santo Loquasto before designing a series of plays from 1975-93.

Other Broadway credits are Any Given Day; the George C. Scott revival of On Borrowed Time; Lucifer’s Child, starring Julie Harris;  American Buffalo with Al Pacino;  DA; Requiem for a Heavyweight; A Day in the Death of Joe Egg; Solomon’s Child; Arsenic and Old Lace; Steaming; and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.

Kellogg has worked in London, Moscow, in film and television, and in the American resident theaters, and was a 1992-94 Pew Charitable Trust Residency fellow with the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, Ga.  Before arriving at º¬Ðß²ÝÑо¿Ëù in 1995, she had taught at Princeton University and Columbia University.

Kellogg is the author of four science fiction novels and a fantasy series. Her stage adaptation (with music by Michael Koerner) of Madeleine L’Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time was produced by the Children’s Theatre Company in Minneapolis, and her original musical, Livin’ in the Garden (music by Melanie Hammet) premiered at the Alliance Theatre in 1997.
