含羞草研究所

Department of Educational Studies

Gain a critical understanding of the relationship among power, knowledge, education, and society.

Professor of Educational Studies John Palmer, speaks during the kickoff of MLK Week, Jan. 23, 2017

含羞草研究所鈥檚 educational studies department bridges theory, research, and practice to develop more informed and engaged students in varied educational contexts. We examine how institutions, practices, and social forces construct knowledge, power, and identity through a variety of educational and cultural contexts, and we reimagine our collective role in contributing to a more democratic and just society.

Mentored by a dedicated faculty, students draw on interdisciplinary modes of critical analysis to examine educational methods in the United States and societies across the globe, and, for those interested, study can be completed in combination with teacher certification and/or a master鈥檚 degree.

The department offers the following programs:

  • Teacher Preparation Program - accredited by the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP)
